Beach time

Today was Evan's first day at an ocean beach. He put his toes in the sand.

He also relaxed in the tent "aunt" Amy got him.

Later this afternoon, "aunt" Amy, "aunt" Tara and "uncle" Drew are coming for a visit.

The squash is squished

Bob plants a vegetable garden every year and every year we have more veggies that two people (four to six if you include the veggies we give to the in laws) can eat. This year, however, the Little Man is with us and in a few months will start on "solids" (though why they call mush "solids" I don't know), so I decided to turn some of the veggies into baby food. Last night I steamed, pureed and froze a dozen string bean servings. Today I turned two zucchini squashes into 32 servings of baby food. Of course I did a taste test...not bad if I do say so myself. Here's a before and after picture of the zucchinis.

We also are growing butternut squash and eggplants this summer which will be turned into baby food and if the crop is anything like a few years ago, Evan will be eating butternut squash and eggplant until he's 5.

I missed my boy

Yesterday I had to run to the DMV and I didn't want to take Evan because of all of the people that would be there. So Evan's grandma and grandpa came to visit. I was gone for nearly 3 hours before I got home. It was the longest I'd ever been away from Evan. I can't believe how much I missed him. All I did for about half an hour (okay more like an hour), after my in-laws left, was hug him. Afterwards, I sang him his ABCs and he seemed to enjoy that. Here is proof.

This morning Evan was having tummy time on Bob's chest when he has projectile spit up all over Bob's shirt (narrowly avoiding Bob's face). It was kind of funny (especially Bob's reaction).

Bob is working tonight, so the boys are getting some snuggling in. Here they are hanging out in the back yard.

Father's Day & Two Months Old

Yesterday was Father's Day and we had a great time at Nana & Pa's house. Here is a video of Bob and Frank (grandpa) playing with Evan.

Also, today Evan is 2 months old.  It's hard to believe that two months ago he made his arrival into the world.  Here he is having tummy time.

8 Week Check up

So, yesterday Evan had his 8 week check up.  He's just under 12 lbs and 23" long.  The poor Little Man the first of his vaccinations too, and he was not happy about it.  The vaccinations made him extremely sleepy (I think he is still a bit groggy from the vaccines this morning, as he went down for his nap in the bassinet without much fussing).

One thing we noticed was that Evan was always turning his head to the left.  When we mentioned it to the doctor, she said it was torticollis or Wry Neck.  Basically, his head was turned to the left in the womb and the muscles are tight on the one side.  She said it was good that we caught it early, as if can lead to a misshapen head and, in extreme cases, surgery to lengthen the muscles.  She gave us a few neck stretches to do and we are to go back in a month.  If the problem doesn't seem to be correcting itself that we may have to take Evan to physical therapy.

On another note, Evan is attempting to roll over.  He has on a handful of occasions rolled himself over from his stomach to his back but today seemed the first time he's made good progress on rolling over onto his stomach from his back.  If he his right arm wasn't in the way, he'd have probably made it.  Here he is attempting to roll over on to his tummy.

Hi, this is Evan

Hi all. This is Evan. I just got a bath and have a question. Can someone tell me why my momma gave me a mohawk?

This just in

This just in: Another poo-splosion has occurred at the Masin household. According to sources, the poo-splosion was minor compared to last Wednesday's poo-splosion, as it occurred in the midst of a diaper change. This is Evan's response to his momma's pleas for no more poo-splosions.

Observations of Human Nature

This morning Bob and I took Evan to breakfast and then grocery shopping.  I find it interesting how much nicer people are when you have a baby.  When we were at breakfast a man, who had two toddlers of his own, helped carry food to our table, while I settled Evan at the table.  When we went to the grocery store people were smiling, asking questions about him, and saying how adorable he is.  Anyway...I didn't get a picture of us during the outting but here is a picture of Evan and his Peanutty.

Smiles for Nana

Today Evan's Nana came to visit and she was able to get him to smile big for the camera. How cute is that smile?

Introducing "Getting Evan"

Hello.  My name is Theresa and I am a first time mom.  My son, Evan, was born on April 20, 2011.  "Getting Evan" is a play on the phrase "Getting Even", as this blog will document the triumphs and trials of parenting (from first smiles and laughs to poo-splosions).
So without further ado let me introduce the subject of this blog:
<---------This is Evan Logan. He was born at 7:03 am and weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz and was 20.5" long.  In his first seven weeks, Evan has had severe diaper rash (caused by the Pampers Dry Max diapers), eczema and cradle cap.  He's also made his momma cry the first week he was home, because he was being difficult when it came to breastfeeding.  But for all that he's a pretty good baby.  He smiles and laughs (most at me when I am trying to get him to sleep) and has rolled himself over from his stomach to his back a few times.

Over the past two weeks he's become more alert, cooing at us and touching the dangly bits on his exercise mat.  He has also started having poo-splosions, much to my dismay.  He is starting to sleep longer at night, five hours last night followed by an hour of awake time :( , but takes fewer naps during the day.  He is currently asleep in the Baby Bjorn (his new favorite napping spot).  Next week he gets his first set of shots, which makes me happy because I will no longer be house-bound (I am starting to get cabin fever).  Well...I can't think of anything else, so I will sign off for now.
